Filah Lah Lah is a singer and songwriter from Pretoria, South Africa.
Her father was an avid lover of music, with tastes ranging from Jazz to Funk; he made it a point for black music to pour into his children's ears.
At quite an early age, Filah was introduced to phenomenal jazz music via the likes of Nina Simone, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane; as well as the greats of Rhythm and Blues via Marvin Gaye, Betty Wright and Smokey Robinson to name a few.
Till this day, the artists whom she grew up listening to, influence not only her music, but her artistry in general.
And 90's Hip-Hop music was also played at high volumes in the house, much to her benefit of course - because she attributes the genre as one of her major influences.
Hence, she graced the cover of Arrested Development's 2021 album For the FKN Love.
Filah Lah Lah made her music debut with the release of her own EP Filahsofy, which harnessed a sense of vulnerability and rawness that added to its charm.
She then followed up with a second body of work, titled We're Gonna Be Just Fine - that presents an ambient and harmonic aura.
She continues to explore the diversity of her sound and challenges the status quo.
"I was always different. In the way I thought, played, dreamt, spoke, looked. It's contextual but there's never been a moment in my life where I didn't feel "other". Music allows me to be "other". It allows me to make the constant decision to be who I really am", she expressed.
She is featured in a beautiful grooving duet, "You Give", with Unn Known.
Additionally, her music videos “Call Me”, “Change or Find Out”, and “Past Myself” have fans internationally demanding more song rotation on all airwaves.
Filah Lah Lah is set to be releasing her full-length album ON AIR this season.
