Mac Phipps, who was positioning as the new millennium highlighted No Limit Records artist of Master P heading into year 2000, was exonerated and released from prison almost 21 years after - for a murder crime he didn't commit - in which his lyrics were used as "propensity" evidence against him.
Accordingly, "propensity" is described by Federal Court Rules and Procedures as "character evidence" that is not admissible; however, Mac was limited to state court jurisdiction in Louisiana where such rules were disregarded and inconsequential.
As reported via a NPR's Louder Than A Riot segment in 2020, there was a confession by another person that was intentionally ignored by police hours after the incident.
In a RaRe Report interview, Mac explained his experience within the court systemics:
"I think at that point they really were honing in and focusing on me as the suspect and so I think that everything they did after that was to basically corroborate whatever... yeah they made the[ir] mind up... I had no doubt in my mind that uh the jurors was going to believe this - you know I felt that man you have no credible witness, you have no weapon and um all you have is circumstantial evidence at best... I just didn't really think they had enough for me - if I was a juror it wouldn't have been enough for me so I didn't think they had enough so I was confident up until the guilty verdict." It was also expressed that the alleged weapons did not match.
Mac Phipps' wrongful arrest and the prejudice against Hip-Hop to cover up the wrongful arrests resulted in a 30-year sentence against the aspiring Louisiana lyricist.
Earlier this year, Mr. Phipps returned to speak with CBS Morning to talk about the “Free Our Art" movement - a non-profit organization that Mac has enlisted with to combat the injustice of "propensity" or guesstimation being weaponized to cruelly and injustly convict and imprison Hip-Hop performers, others of various art forms, and First Amendment Rights constitutional protections.
Since his state exoneration and pardon, Mac has released Son Of The City (2022) featuring southern independent trailblazing Hip-Hop music-artists such as 3D Na'Tee, Fiend, Tiffany Cave and Caren Green. He has a music video for his post-exonerated debuting single "No Fear" ft. Dee-1 and is also featured in Fiend's "Electricity". > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXFZCH1XmyU
Mac Phipps performed at Live At The House of Blues for his No Limit solo debut album Shell Shocked 25th Anniversary Tour. And he has released an official video for "Can You Love Me? (Eyes of A Killer)" – a musically refreshed version from his second No Limit solo album World War III (1999).
And recently uploaded on BOSS TALK 101, Phipps spoke about upstarting a podcast and having a prison rap concert with his 504 Boyz labelmate C-Murder (Master P's brother) who was also imprisoned under a similar scenario.
Mac Phipps overall debut album The Lyrical Midget (1990) was released when he was 13 under the stage name “Lil Mac”, with production by a young Mannie Fresh (prior to Cash Money Records, Big Tymers).
